Isuzu - A Successful Heavy Vehicle Manufacturer

Isuzu is a Japanese automobile company that manufactures heavy trucks, commercial vehicles and cars. The company headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. The company is one of the world’s largest producers of all size trucks, from light to heavy duty. It is also famous for manufacturing diesel engines, capacity to produce around 17 million engines every year. Isuzu is renowned for producing Isuzu Ascender - a new name of GMC’s Envoy and Chevrolet Colorados as models of i-370 and i-290.  

Long back in the 1916 Ishikawajima, a shipbuilding and engineering company together with Electric Industrial Company and Tokyo Gas thought to build automobiles. In 1922, they in technical collaboration with Woolseley Motor Company Limited produced first of its kind A-9 car and then two year later manufactured first CP truck. In 1934, a meeting with govt. of Japan results in the existence of company’s name ‘Isuzu’ after Isuzu River meaning fifty bells.

Chevrolet LUV was the first model of Isuzu line of vehicle that was sold in the USA. Thereafter, the company continues to reveal new innovation in producing cars, commercial vehicles and light/heavy SUVs. Some of the important trucks models that the company has produced are: Isuzu Florian, Impulse hatchback, Amigo-a first generation compact SUV, Rodeo, Panther - a light van, Isuzu Oasis minivan, Isuzu Hombre pickup truck, Ascender - a large SUV and Rodeo/Amigo - a second generation compact SUV.

Besides passenger vehicles and SUVs, the company has produced commercial cars which include Nagisa, XU-1, Isuzu VX-4, Costa, Aisance, Revolutionary Vehicle-KAI, ZXS, Isuzu Zaccar and GBX. All these car brands were successful in the US markets as well as all over the world. On November 2006, the automobile company Toyota acquired 5.9 % share, together making them as one of the 3rd biggest shareholder over the globe, leaving behind Mitsubishi and ITOCHU.
