Jeep - Symbol for Toughness

There are lots of explanations of the origin of the term ‘Jeep’. Perhaps the most suitable belief holds that the word come out from the ‘GP’ stands for general purpose or Government purpose that was gradually thick into the word jeep. The Jeep brands have always been known for their quality and ability off-road. They are the multipurpose vehicles that are competent of crossing uneven area. They are also known as symbol of freedom as they have the ability to go almost everywhere.

Jeep is an automobile division of American manufacturer Chrysler that has been producing automobile since 1924. The vehicle that first came out from the factory was Bantam BRC designed for the Department of Army by American Bantam. It was used as primary light vehicle of the US army during the World War II. From the beginning till now, the Jeep brand has produced many award winning models. Some of them are: Bantam BRC-60 prototype, Ford GPA, Super Jeep, Golden Eagle, Jeep Gladiator, Jeepster Commando, Fleetvan, and WJ Grand Cherokee  

The brand has gone through many owners. Willys was the first who made the foundation of this brand and produced first civilian jeep in 1941. Then Kaiser purchased Willys in 1953. After few years Kaiser was sold to American Motors Co. In the mean time Jeep CJ was substituted with the AMC-made Jeep Wrangler. In 1987, the Jeep brand and the other assets of AMC were purchased by Chrysler Corporation. Till now this brand functions under the name of Chrysler Holding LLC.

There are six models that are currently manufactured under the Jeep brand that include Jeep Wrangler - the four door, wheelbase version of the Wrangler model, Jeep Liberty - a small SUV, Jeep Compass - a small crossover SUV, Jeep Patriot, Jeep Commander - a seven passenger SUV and Jeep Grand Cherokee - big family oriented SUV.
