Austin Healey: The Legendary British Sports Car



Austin Healey, a sports car of British brand was last produced in 1972. This firm came into existence in 1952 as a result of a combined venture by Leonard Lord (from the Austin section, BMC, British Motor Corporation) and Donald Healey, an automotive engineer and designer.


The twenty years agreement drawn between the business partners as mentioned above expired in 1968. Donald Healey finally united with Jensen Motors in 1952 and rose to the position of the chairman in 1972.


Austin Healey, nevertheless, had produced three models after 1953. The models produced from 1953 to 1959 were known as Austin Healey 100. The name signified that the car could maintain 100 mph speed, a rare quality belonging to the cars of those times.


The years from 1959 to 1967 witnessed a few more models by Austin Healey. These were known as Austin Healey 3000. The name was derived from the 3000 cc engine. The years from 1958 to 1971 witnessed the last model, the Sprite. Alternatively, the models have also been known as Spridgets, Bugeye or Frogeye.


These legendary cars had been quite popular during the times. Audiences saw a character in a 2007 movie titled ‘Transformers’ driving an Austin Healey. Steve Martin’s part in the film ‘Father of the Bride’ also drove Austin Healey of black color.


A number of the organizations and clubs are also named after the famous make of the cars. These cars have definitely been among the most impressive ones in the history of the British cars. Though plans to revive the car are on the way, those who love this make of the British sports cars can certainly rent it. There are quite a number of car rentals that will allow you to rent it.
