A lucrative lowdown on the Packard

Packard was an American luxury automobile. In 1899, there was the development of the first Packard automobiles and in 1958, the last. Between 1904 and the 1930s, luxury but high priced American automobiles were built by Packard. Trucks built by Packard were as excellent as their luxury car. Packard was an autonomous automaker and reason being this it did not have the access to a bigger corporate structure which can absorb the losses. Nevertheless, it did have an excellent cash position whereas some of the other autonomous luxury marques had not better cash position.

Into the bargain, Packard was also having another advantage over some of the other luxury automakers. Packard had a single production line. Packard could manage to keep its expenses down simply by continuing with a single line and by the dint of the interchangeability between the car models. The contemporary automakers of the Packard kept changing their cars models very often whereas Packard did the opposite.  Instead of changing the cars or brining the new car on the market place on an annual basis, Packard started making use of its "Series" formula for discriminating its car model changeovers.

Between 1899 and 1955, Packard saw various kinds of ups and downs in the sale of its car and in 1955, it earned astronomical amount of profit because of the introduction of the first V8 engines made by the Packard. But because of some problems, a number of cars made in 1955 had to be mended or repaired by the dealers before the cars could be sold to the customers. Because of this, 1956 turned out to be a disastrous year. In this year, production of the car dropped to its lowest levels since the First World War. Finally, the year 1960 saw the end of the Packard automobiles company.
