Mazda – Automobile Manufacturing Giant

Mazda Motor Corporation is one of the largest automobile manufacturers in the world. It is a Public Sector Company with 13% of unconsolidated ownership belongs to Ford Motors Company. The revenue of this company is 3,475.8 Billion Pounds and the net income is 91.8 Billion Pounds. The number of employees of Mazda Motor Company is 39,364 as told by sources of this organization. Mazda has global sales of around 1.3 million vehicles per year.

With the inception of the name it can be understood that the company is from Japan. The founder of Mazda, Jujiro Mastuda was a spiritual man and had chosen this name for the firm in honor of his family and Zoroastrianism. The word derives from the word Ahura Mazda meaning wisdom, intelligence, harmony in Avestan Language. The Japanese pronounce the word as “Mastuda”. The television ads pronounce the word as “Mazda” in US and Canada with the initial ‘a’ pronounced as “has” in Canada.

The founder Jojiro Mazda started as Toyo Cork Kogyo Co. Ltd. in 1920. This company was involved in producing weapons for the Japanese Army in Second World War. The name ‘Mazda’ was espoused in the year 1984. But vehicles manufactured bore the name Mazda. The company began with the production of the Cosmo Sport in 1967. In 1970, Mazda entered into the US car selling markets. It created a success with the model Mazda Rotary Pickup which they made for the North American customers.

Mazda had several different marques of its product. They had names like Autozam, Eunos and Efini in Japanese market. These confused the customers. The former marques Autozam, Eunos and Efini exist as sales channels. This means that the model Carol is sold at Autozam as Mazda tag and not as Autozam Carol. Similarly, Mazda had a number of emblems on its model cars. And only recently the company redesigned the emblem in 1997. The emblem now is stylized letter “M” stretching for its development.
