Dodge – A Car Popular for Durability

Dodge is an US based brand of automobiles, sport utility vehicles, trucks manufacturer. It was founded by the Dodge brothers in 1900 and was named Dodge Brothers Company. Earlier, it used to supply machine parts and assembly boards for another automobile company named Detroit. It began making its own vehicle in 1914. The brand was sold to Chrysler Group in 1928. Chrysler Group is a part of Chrysler LLC equity investment company. Chrysler LLC is responsible for doing the marketing of Dodge automobiles.

Dodge’s first model was called Dodge Brother’s model 30. It had the features like all steel body, 12 volt electrical system and sliding gear transmission. It earned reputation in the market competing with popular Ford models. It ranked second place in car sales after Ford within two years. It earned a worldwide acclamation for durability in service in 1916 with the US Army’s Pancho Villa Expedition in Mexico. It also earned warm reception from US newspapermen.

With the death of John Dodge in 1920 and simultaneous death of his brother, the responsibility was transferred to these Brothers’s Wives. They kept Frederick Haynes as long time employee and nominated him as President. The Model 30 evolved to Series 116. Afterwards, they started manufacturing trucks and became a lead manufacturer of trucks. In 1930, Dodge produced three models of car of three price range the De Soto, Plymouth and the Chrysler models.

The market of the cars became easy after the World War II. The manufacturers found easy to sell cars. So, did Dodge’s automobiles. The stylish models began to come from the year 1953. Dodge introduced the V8 engine in model Hemi in 1953. The Lancer Sedan and Dart models came in the year 1961 and 1963. The minivan model named Caravan came in 1980’s and it created a complete new want for automobiles. Today, some of the best models are Avenger Sedan, Challenger, Charger, Magnum sports wagon.
